Doppler ultrasound

Doppler ultrasound is a specialised examination that will capture images of the blood flow direction and in different veins or arteries.

The procedure of the exam

For the examination procedure, you will be asked:

Fasting for ultrasound examinations of the abdomen and pelvis, as well as for the Doppler study of the intra-abdominal vessels and in particular of the renal arteries.

to change into a hospital gown and remove your jewellery and other metal objects, which can interfere with image quality

to lay comfortably on an examination table. The technician will apply a warm gel on the region that will be observed

to remain still while our radiologist moves the ultrasound sensor slowly to take images

Please note that the total duration of your visit for this examination can be between 45 and 60 minutes, even though the examination procedure itself will only last approximately 30 minutes.

A doctor's prescription is required for this examination.

Preparing for the exam

To ensure the success of your ultrasound, please follow these guidelines:
This preparation is for renal Doppler ultrasound only.

Do not eat any solid or liquid food after midnight. However, you can take your medication with a minimum of water.

Do not chew gum, as this will cause you to swallow air and thus impair the quality of the examination.

Fast for 4 to 6 hours before the examination. You can still take your medication with a minimum of water.

Do not eat fatty foods in the morning (muffins, eggs, cheese, sausage, bacon, peanut or other nut butter, butter or margarine). You can eat, for example, a portion of oatmeal with fruit, bread with jam, or any other equivalent food if you have a gluten intolerance.

Do not chew gum, as this will cause you to swallow air and thus degrade the quality of the examination.
